Member and Author Mohsin Zaidi’s biography ‘A Dutiful Boy’ was published just over a week ago to critical acclaim.
Mohsin Zaidi grew up in a devout Muslim community in an economically deprived area of East London. Feeling isolated from his family, as he struggled with his sexuality, Moshin found an incredible drive for education, and became the first person from his school to attend Oxford University to study Law. Oxford presented a new world of challenges of race and class to overcome, and back at home, a witchdoctor invited by his father to ‘cure’ him confronted him with a difficult choice.
Mohsin’s sheer determination and bravely helped him to find himself and the freedom to become the man his parents never wanted him to be.
Mohsin has worked at a UN war crimes tribunal in The Hague and at the UK’s Supreme Court. Today he is a criminal barrister at one of the top chambers in the country and works on a number of high profile cases. He is an advocate for LGBT rights, BAME representation and social mobility. He is on the board of Stonewall, the UK’s biggest LGBT rights charity and is a governor of his former secondary school. The Guardian, which describes the book as “utterly compelling” commented that it “ provides a lesson of acceptance for us all, and for the future of our multicultural society.”
