Join co-curator Ariane Bankes at Pallant House, Chichester
LAST CALL: BOOKING DEADLINE 10 February
Biographers’ Club prize administrator Ariane Bankes has co-curated the exhibition Dora Carrington: Beyond Bloomsbury at Pallant House, Chichester, till 27th April.
This is the first exhibition in 30 years devoted to the remarkably talented and entirely original artist Carrington (1893 – 1932), closely linked with the Bloomsbury group through her love for the writer Lytton Strachey, with whom she lived from 1917 until his death in 1931. Vivacious, courageous, writer of some of the wittiest letters of the 20th century, she captivated all who knew her, and her art ranged from perceptive portraits of her distinguished circle of friends to landscapes suffused with memory and emotion; from delicate figure studies to riotous decorative schemes for the homes she created wherever she and Lytton lived.
The works on show are largely from private collections; several have never been seen in public before. Ariane will be happy to give an informal tour of the exhibition and talk about the curating process to Club members on Tuesday 25th February, from 11.30am, followed by lunch in the Gallery Cafe. Numbers are limited to 20.
The cost will be £15 for the exhibition and tour, not including the cost of lunch and travel to and fro. Members will arrange their own travel; there are regular trains from London to Chichester; we recommend the 9.36 from Victoria, to arrive in time.
