Jad Adams is a historian who specialises in radical characters from the 19th and 20th centuries and has an interest in the culture of the 1890s. His biographical books include Decadent Women: Yellow Book Lives, Tony Benn, Gandhi: Naked Ambition, Pankhurst, Kipling and Dynasty: The Nehru-Gandhi Story. Other work includes Women and the Vote: A World History and Hideous Absinthe: A History of the Devil in a Bottle. He is a contributor to the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography on figures from the 1890s, left-wing and radical characters. Prior to devoting himself full time to books he worked in television, making documentaries and series, often with a biographical theme.
