Glendinning, Victoria
Victoria Glendinning has written biographies of Elizabeth Bowen, Vita Sackville-West, Edith Sitwell, Rebecca West, Jonathan Swift, Anthony Trollope and Thomas Stamford Raffles, several of which have won prizes. She is currently nearing the end of an intense family saga – not a business book – about the extraordinary family behind the John Lewis Partnership. In between biographies she writes fiction, the most recent, now out in paperback, The Butcher’s Daughter. She has ten grandchildren and lives in Sherborne, Dorset, with a good rail service to London.
Gordon-Cumming, Jane
JANE GORDON-CUMMING won the (then) 2011 Tony Lothian Prize with her proposal for a biography of her grandparents: The American Heiress and the Scottish Rake: The True Story of the Royal Baccarat Scandal. She is now concentrating on the story of her grandmother, Florence Garner Gordon-Cumming, the woman who stood by Sir William when he lost his action for slander and followed him into social exile. Also a novelist, Jane has published two romantic comedies: A Proper Family Christmas and A Real Family Easter. Gordon, Lyndall
Lyndall Gordon was born in Cape Town and studied American Literature at Columbia in New York. She came to England through the Rhodes Trust in 1973. She has written seven biographies including The Imperfect Life of T S Eliot, the ‘Life’ for the Eliot website tseliot.com, and Lives Like Loaded Guns: Emily Dickinson and Her Family’s Feuds. There are biographies of Virginia Woolf, Charlotte Bronte and Mary Wollstonecraft, and also two memoirs, Shared Lives, a story of women’s friendship, and Divided Lives: Dreams of a Mother and Daughter. Lyndall is a senior research fellow at St Hilda’s College, Oxford, and a fellow of the Royal Society of Literature.
