We were delighted to give this year’s award to Miranda Seymour, author of a string of distinguished and original biographies, from her early A Ring of Conspirators about Henry James and his circle, through lives of Robert Graves, Mary Shelley and Ottoline Morrell, to the more recent The Bugatti Queen (Hellé Nice), In Byron’s Wake, and I Used to Live Here Once: the Haunted Life of Jean Rhys. In between these, she has woven books about the friendships between English and Germans between the two world wars, and a memoir of her father.

Miranda was in conversation with Susannah Clapp.
