When Sources Are Rare: Peter Stanford in Conversation with Ann Wroe

Time and date: 6.30pm – 8pm, Thursday 23 September; Venue: Maggs Bros, 48 Bedford Square, London WC1B 3DR; Tickets: £15. Please book through Join It, by clicking here.

Peter Stanford’s most recent book, Gaudi: God’s Architect (Hodder & Stoughton, 2026) – along with his earlier Judas: The Troubling History of the Renegade Apostle (John Murray) – is a masterly work which somehow makes a virtue of the patchiness of source material pertaining to its subject. Ann Wroe, winner of the Biographers’ Club’s Exceptional Contribution prize in 2020, is another such virtuoso under these conditions, with subjects including Pontius Pilate and Perkin Warbeck. Their conversation will fascinate anyone interested in the biographer’s art.
